Up for sale, a 1982 Fender "The Strat" in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A unique model designed to be an upscale iteration of the classic Stratocaster platform, this particular version of The Strat is among the rarest and most collectable, with a solid American Black Walnut body and neck, an incredibly thick solid brass bridge block, and hardware plated in 100 microns of 22k gold. The result is a rich and textured take on the classic Strat tonal profile, with the walnut body and neck falling sonically between the warm, dark sounds of East Indian rosewood and the bright bell-like ring of maple.Medium weight for this model, especially given the hardware and tone woods used, this Strat weighs 9lbs 8oz. We've had this guitar professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The one-piece walnut neck and fretboard offers a slender C shape which borders on a soft V at the nut, filling out with a bit more depth and shoulder as you travel up the fretboard. 835 at the 1st fret and fills out to. The walnut fretboard is un-finished (like a rosewood board) and the original frets are intact, showing. Just a touch of wear on the crowns beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The original nut measures 1 9/16 in width. The headstock features gold-plated Schaller-made tuning machines embossed with the Fender name, and these tuners turn very smoothly and hold pitch reliably, even with liberal vibrato use.
Reverting to the specs of a'50s Strat, this guitar features truss rod adjustment at the neck heel, a smaller'50s-style peghead, and a maple "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck which contrasts nicely with the walnut. Stamped on the neck heel, the guitar dates to 2-1-82. The electronics all function as intended, with an untouched harness and CTS pots which date to the 9th week of'82.
All of the original hardware and plastic parts are intact, including the brass bridge unique to this model with an absolutely massive sustain block. The large metal "F" embossed knobs and bridge still have extremely clean plating, and the original gold plated tremolo arm is also present. The four-bolt neck plate has "Fender USA" very faintly embossed along the top edge too.Cosmetic wear is limited to light finish scratches on the back in the clear coat of the finish, mostly concentrated on the plastic tremolo cover, as well as a couple tiny nicks on the face of the instrument and light scuffing on the treble side of the pick path. The neck profile is nigh flawless, with just one tiny nick central to the profile on the maple skunk stripe behind fret 6. This is a particularly well preserved example of one of Fenders rarest 1980s upscale Strat models. An ostensibly original early 1980s Fender tweed hardshell case is included with functional latches and clean brown leather handle ends and handle. The original manual is also included.
